Where are my notes stored?
Only on your device, inside Amanu's local database. Amanu does not upload your notes to a cloud storage service.
How are my notes protected?
Amanu encrypts the local database with SQLCipher. The database key is kept separately in your device's secure storage rather than alongside your notes.
Can Amanu read or recover my notes?
No. Amanu has no account system, storage backend, or cloud sync, so we do not receive your note contents and cannot recover them for you.
Does voice recognition work offline?
Amanu requires Android's on-device speech recognition and does not fall back to network transcription. Your phone must support on-device recognition and have the offline language model installed. Downloading the model initially may require an internet connection. Amanu does not save or retain your voice recordings.
Which languages are supported?
Voice recognition currently supports English (United States), using the
en-US language model. You can still type and edit note text
manually in any language supported by your keyboard.
What happens if I export or uninstall Amanu?
Exported Markdown and JSON files are not encrypted after they leave Amanu, so store them carefully. Uninstalling the app removes its local database; export a backup first if you want to keep your notes.
