# Privacy Policy **Effective date: September 11, 2026** This Privacy Policy explains how **Amanu** ("the App") handles information when you use it. Amanu is designed to allow users to create and store notes locally on their devices, including by converting spoken words into text. ## 1. Information We Collect Amanu does not require you to create an account. We do not operate a backend or server for storing your notes, and we do not collect or have access to the contents of your notes. Amanu does not use analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. ## 2. Voice Input and Speech Recognition Amanu allows you to create notes by speaking into your device's microphone. When you start voice transcription, the App accesses your microphone and uses the speech-recognition service available on your Android device to convert your speech into text. Amanu does not save or retain recordings of your voice. ### Speech recognition provider Amanu currently uses Android's system speech-recognition functionality. Depending on your device, Android version, installed speech-recognition provider, language, and device configuration, speech recognition may: - be processed locally on your device; or - transmit audio to the speech-recognition provider's servers for processing. The speech-recognition provider is a service provided by your device or operating system and is separate from Amanu. Amanu does not control how that provider processes voice data. Any processing performed by the speech-recognition provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms. The resulting transcription is returned to Amanu and may then be stored as a note on your device. ## 3. Local Storage Notes created with Amanu are stored locally on your device. Amanu uses encrypted local storage to protect stored note data. We do not operate a cloud synchronization or storage service and do not receive copies of your notes. Amanu is configured to exclude its application data, including notes, from Android cloud backups. On some devices running Android 12 or later, the device manufacturer may still transfer application data directly to a new device during device migration. Any such device-to-device transfer is controlled by Android and your device manufacturer; Amanu does not operate or receive it. ## 4. Exporting Notes Amanu allows you to export your notes in formats including Markdown and JSON. Exports occur only when you explicitly initiate them. Amanu does not automatically upload exported notes to any external service. After you export or share a file outside Amanu, its storage, transmission, and protection depend on the location or application you choose. For example, if you save an exported file to cloud storage or send it through another application, that provider's privacy practices apply. We do not receive copies of your exported notes. ## 5. Microphone Permission Amanu requests access to your device's microphone solely to provide speech-to-text functionality. Microphone access is used when you initiate voice transcription and is subject to the permissions you grant through Android. You can revoke microphone permission at any time through your device settings. Revoking this permission will prevent voice transcription from functioning but will not affect notes you have already created. ## 6. Third-Party Services Amanu does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting services. The App relies on the speech-recognition service available through the Android operating system. Depending on your device and configuration, this service may be provided by Google or another speech-recognition provider. Such providers may process voice data independently of Amanu. Their processing of that information is governed by their own privacy policies and terms. ## 7. Data Sharing We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell, rent, or provide the contents of your notes to advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. When you use voice transcription, audio may be transmitted to your device's speech-recognition provider as described in the **Voice Input and Speech Recognition** section. Any export or sharing of notes that you initiate is under your control. ## 8. Data Retention and Deletion Your notes remain stored locally on your device until you delete them or remove the App and its associated data. Because we do not store your notes on our servers, we cannot access, recover, or remotely delete them. You can delete notes using the deletion functionality available within Amanu. Files that you have exported from Amanu are separate from the App's local storage and must be deleted separately from wherever you chose to save or share them. Amanu is configured not to retain its application data in Android cloud backups. However, on some devices running Android 12 or later, device-to-device migration controlled by the device manufacturer may transfer application data to another device. If Amanu data has been transferred to another device, it must be deleted separately on that device. ## 9. Data Security Amanu uses encrypted local storage to protect notes stored within the App. Because Amanu has no backend or cloud storage service, your notes are not transmitted to or stored on servers operated by us. However, no method of electronic storage or processing can guarantee absolute security. When Android's speech-recognition service performs transcription through an external service, the security and processing of that voice data are also subject to the speech-recognition provider's systems and privacy practices. ## 10. Analytics and Advertising Amanu does not use analytics services. Amanu does not include advertising or advertising SDKs. We do not use the contents of your notes or transcriptions for advertising, profiling, analytics, or marketing. ## 11. Children's Privacy Amanu is not specifically designed or directed toward children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Amanu does not operate user accounts or a backend service, we do not receive the contents of users' locally stored notes. ## 12. Changes to This Privacy Policy We may update this Privacy Policy if Amanu's functionality or data-handling practices change. For example, changes to how speech recognition, local storage, backups, or other features work may require this policy to be updated. When this Privacy Policy changes, the effective date shown at the top of this page will also be updated. ## 13.
